First group to age date the Archean, (relatively) was the Logan and his CDN geos. They did not get the age exaclty right but at least they were playing with the billions when up to then everybody was saying rocks more than 500 million years old were impossible to stratify or classify.

Dawson, the canukian explo geo classified the garnets as G1 to g10 according to the amount of chrome and the ratio of calcium other trace elements in the eutectic. And this predates diamond stability field work by a few years. This is quite the scientific exercise if you ever get into refractive index studies of minerals and melt compositions. It ain't just a little bit of paper work. Gotta do some compositional abstractional projections with hard micro science. (Dirac the nuke physico was a fr. mining engineer BTW) All that light interference stuff is pure witchcraft. I don't know one person in 20 who can explain birefringence correctly vis a vis light waves magnetic and electric fields. Refraction period, and its pathway of the least time.. uncanny.

Still the europeans were superior in structural implications. They had 3D displays more often in their classes in the mountains. No fair. Have to put a geology class in Banff.
