I tend to believe wingnuts are so disconnected that this captain didn't think he would get caught. But 2008 is different....liberals are checking everything....working to source out these smears and stop them early on. The 'good' captain probably wasn't expecting that.

"How dare he lie like that.....its beyond my understanding how they live with themselves."

Hard to say. It seems like he wasn't present at the time given that he mentions "his sources". So he could be innocent and someone misled him or possibly pulled a prank.

Or it might be more interesting. If you read it, it reads like those smear emails that the wingnuts love so much. Note that the original cover story was an anonymous Air Force officer. If his wife had forwarded the email and removed his name, then it would have been just another nameless smear that can't be traced to the source. Given that it has details that give it an air of authenticity, few people would question it. Now, it has many details wrong, apparently he didn't go to the Clamshell and the basketball was played in Kuwait and not Afghanistan, but the email would have likely mutated to cover that up over time.
