My computer is acting funny. I go into Device Manager/Performance and set Virtual Memory to be on my G: drive which is on a separate disk. I close out of Device Manager and it asks me if I want to restart. I click "no". I go back into Device Manager and it has Virtual Memory set back to "Let Windows Manage It".

I reboot, and Device Manager still has it set to "Let Windows Manage..."

And yet, my swap file is indeed on the G: drive. The Win386.swp file is over there, it's not on the C: drive, and I can see the space taken by the swap file on the G: drive when I defragment: It's the only thing on that drive.

This is a Drive Image restore of a fresh Win98 install. I gave up on trying to fix my old Win98 where WebFerret wouldn't link to my browser. Forget about trying to find the right registry entry. Forget about uninstalling and re-installing ie5 (uninstall feature disappeared. As a matter of fact, ie was no longer even listed in the Install/Uninstall list!).

I have a feeling that DI has a hand in this (the swap-file problem -- the browser problem is un-related, except that it caused me to want to re-install Windows). I may try creating the partition with fdisk and then doing the restore again. Good thing I don't have anything else to do with my life....

Windows is a piece of trash I can't live without.
