Magis’ Air5™ Wireless Video Chipset Receives Approval in Japan

TELEC Testing Proves Successful

San Diego—September 9, 2002—Magis announced today that its Air5™-based chipset has successfully completed certification testing at Japan’s Telecom Engineering Center (TELEC). TELEC is responsible for providing technical regulations conformity certification for wireless products distributed in Japan. Magis’ Air5-based chipset is the first 5 GHz wireless networking product capable of supporting high-definition television (HDTV) to receive approval from the Japanese agency. Magis develops chipsets that enable wireless communications of high-quality video, TCP/IP data, and audio throughout the home and office.

“Magis is poised to enter the Japanese market with fully-compliant chipsets that enable the wireless delivery of video applications, along with audio and TCP/IP data,” said Clarence Bruckner, president and CEO of Magis Networks, Inc. “This is a significant milestone for Magis and our Japanese-based consumer electronics customers.”

The Air5 certification was based on a board submitted by one of Magis’ strategic customers. Magis’ Air5™ technology supports Japanese, as well as Asian, European, and US, 5 GHz standards.

Magis develops chipsets for next-generation wireless networks that enable the simultaneous distribution of high-quality video, audio, and TCP/IP data throughout the home and office. The company’s products are based on its Air5™ technology which supports flexible wireless connections at bit rates up to 54 Mbps using the clear 5 GHz frequency band. With an Air5™-based network, multiple streams of cable and satellite digital video and audio can be distributed wirelessly while maintaining their original quality. This same network supports TCP/IP data throughput at ten times the performance of 802.11b.

About Magis’ Air5™ Technology
The architecture of Magis’ Air5™ technology encompasses IEEE 802.11a, HiperLAN2, and Wireless 1394 standards. Leveraging the advantages of the 5 GHz frequency band and Magis’ advanced RF design techniques, this technology enables Magis’ chipsets to exceed the performance, coverage, and range of other 5 GHz and 802.11b products. This advanced design also achieves a high level of integration, thereby significantly reducing build costs to manufacturers, and enabling them to quickly bring 5 GHz wireless networking products to market.

Applications for Magis chipsets include digital cable set-tops and gateways, cable modems, satellite receivers, PCs, laptops and PDAs, and consumer electronics equipment such as televisions, personal video recorders (PVRs), DVDs, Internet appliances, and gaming consoles.
