The Bottom Line

It's too early to tell whether Palm will hold onto its lead or Pocket PC will begin to really catch on in the broader market. But we can tell you which one you should choose. The answer depends primarily on what you plan to do with a handheld PC. If you plan to use a handheld simply to keep your life better organized -- to look up phone numbers, keep track of upcoming appointments, and remember what you need to do each day -- a Palm-based device is more than sufficient and appealing in its simplicity. In you want a handheld PC that does a lot more, and you can really take advantage of the additional productivity and entertainment applications, then Pocket PC is a better choice.
