BTW, this election shows why we do NOT want to do away with the electoral college. The national vote shows the candidates about 200,000 votes apart. That's about 2/10 of 1%. That's close enough to call for a recount in any state that has a mandatory recount, and to justify a call for a recount in every state where recounts are options.

If this were a national election, the WHOLE DAMN COUNTRY would need to recount. Every ballot in every precinct in every state. Every ballot layout or design would have to be examined for possible bias. Every voting machine in use in every precinct would have to be examined for mechanical error. Every voter in every state would be subject to challenge as to whether they were truly a qualified voter.

You think this election is lasting too long? Just wait until all 50 states are having to go through the whole thing.

What a mess.
