You were doing a "Search this Subject" from a Subject page. The term you searched for did occur on that Subject in the current year. You need to use the global Search at the top of the page, and select "Public Msgs" from the drop-down list in order to search all Subjects in the current year.

For searches covering periods prior to this year, you would need to use "Advanced Search" which is a premium feature.
