Congress Moves to Implement a 10 Day Waiting Period on All
Nuclear Technology Transfers

WASHINGTON, DC - Republicans in the
House of Representatives today used their slim
majority to ram through legislation that would
require a 10 day waiting period and mandatory
CIA background checks on nations seeking to
acquire U.S. Nuclear technology. Democrats on
Capital Hill fought valiantly to defeat the bill but
were not able to muster the votes needed to kill
the legislation. Said House Minority Leader Dick
Gephardt, "The Republicans are lying when they
claim this bill would make the world a safer
place. This is nothing more than a GOP effort to
keep foreign money from finding its way into DNC coffers. But as long as we
control the White House we will continue to sell our nuclear secrets to those nations
which contribute large sums of money to Democratic campaigns."

The bill will now go to the Senate for debate. The White House has already said that
it will veto the legislation should it pass the Senate.
