You can set alerts for whatever you want.

Yes, it will pop up as soon as you open the chart, that is why it is annoying if it is on a chart you don't look at regularly. The wndow will pop up, telling you what teh alert is then and at the same time it will ding and the voice will start talking to you.

I have my folders arranged by what I trade day to day, by sector and then alphabetically. Some time in the past, I apparently set my default to have voice activation so charts I have't looked at in years when opened for the first time will start baraging me with pop ups and voices screaming at me about signals that fired off a year ago and every other instance since then. Luckily there is a "suppress all future alerts" to shut them up for that one stock then you go to the next and see the same thing happen. -ggg-

I don't have real time so can't comment. I still work 9-5 so end of day version has been fine for my needs thus far. Most serious traders I know use Tradestation though I would likely use MetaStock just because I already know it and am comfortable with it.
