Best way to fight back:

This place is known for this speed trap. Embarrassingly, it isn't my first time to get it there -- they got me back in '01, too -- it is a strip of highway with a 65 mph limit where they have sneaked in a couple of 45 mph signs you have to be really, really looking for.

Interestingly, the night before they got me, I had watched a news special on TV about speed traps, where they talked about cities in FLA having 300 residents where they wrote 9,000 tickets in a year.

Here, to be outlawed, a speed trap has to generate more than 30% of the city revenues AND more than half the tickets half to be less than 10 mph over. This would never happen in this location, because of the way it is set up.

I'd like to rent a billboard on either side of that town -- they would be flat broke in a few months. Really tempting.

I actually had an idea a while back for a system that would scan signs and warn people in their cars about changes in speed limit signs. Thought it was a good idea but found out someone else (Siemens AG) already had a patent for it.

Speed limits are a big boondogle, simply another kind of tax and a way to pump up insurance premiums (this happens when you get state legislatures packed with insurance agents).
