Iomega Decreases Jaz Drive Prices With Launch Into Retail Channel; Company Also Introduces Cross-Platform PCI Solution For Jaz Customers
ROY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 3, 1996--Iomega Corp. (NASDAQ:IOMG) Wednesday announced that effective immediately it has enacted a price drop of its one-gigabyte Jaz drive as part of its overall strategy to make affordable personal storage solutions accessible to a broader range of consumers.
It is expected that this will result in a reduction in the estimated U.S. street price of the external Jaz drive from $599 to $499, and of the internal Jaz drive from $499 to $399.
The company also announced it has started shipping Jaz drive products to leading computer retail outlets with plans to expand retail distribution throughout the year.
Today, the company also introduced the Jaz Jet, the first cross-platform internal PCI card that dramatically boosts the speed and performance of the Jaz drive in both the PC and Macintosh platforms.
"The new Jaz pricing reflects Iomega's original goal to bring the highest performing personal storage solutions to consumers," said Timothy L. Hill, Iomega's vice president of worldwide marketing. "Combined with our new Jaz Jet PCI SCSI controller, we believe there is currently no other product that matches the speed, capacity and convenience of the Jaz solution."
Since the Jaz drive and one gigabyte disks began shipping in December 1995, product shipments have set a rapid pace for adoption among power computer users and audio and video professionals. The drive offers unlimited capacity through one-gigabyte disks at speeds that rival many existing hard drives, making it ideal for adding hard drive space, providing high performance back-up with instant recovery and serving as an indispensable tool for audio/video (A/V) development, and for graphics professionals.
Jaz drives and disks have earned broad industry endorsements from leading manufacturers of personal computers and A/V products, including Micron Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Power Computing, Roland Technologies U.S., MicroNet Technology, ProMax Technology, Rorke Data and Glyph Technologies.
Jaz Jet
Available immediately, the Jaz Jet is an internal PCI SCSI controller that offers greater speed and performance to Jaz customers on both PC and Macintosh desktop computers for an estimated street price of $99 -- less than half the cost of similar product offerings on the market today.
The new PCI Jaz Jet controller, developed with Advansys, Inc., is easy to install and easy to use, and is designed to fit readily in expansion slots on both Macs and PCs. An ISA Jaz Jet is available for users of 486 and 386 PC-based systems.
