I've read that figure about the Republicans cutting research into alternative energy by 80% during the 1980s in numerous places. You're right though. RE is subject to the same laws of economics as any other product. Price competitiveness and not government mandates will make RE a reality. Although govt. can help by giving tax breaks and that sort of thing.

Toyota has an fuel cell SUV? That's great! I'm going to check out their website.

I didn't know that it costs a lot to dispose of solar cells once they've reached the end of their useful life? Perhaps that's why solar still isn't cost effective. You learn something new every day. Thanks!

Well, Walter Kroncrite has the right to protest a wind farm if it's going to ruin his view and property value. Just because he happens to be a liberal, doesn't mean he has to support every wind project. I'm sure there are conservatives who oppose it as well. It is more of a NIMBY issue then a political issue.

You yourself will not buy a fuel - efficient compact car. But you want the Fed govt to mandate fuel-efficient compact cars into each of our lives. huh??

Your behavior contradicts your statements. "Do as I say, not as I do."

I have no idea what you are basing this statement on?!? When did I ever state that "I myself would not buy a fuel-efficient car, but want the Fed govt to mandate fuel-efficient compact cars into each of our lives". You're getting a little paranoid with a baseless statement like that Victor.

I would happily buy a fuel-efficient car. My first car was a Honda Civic that got 45 MPG Highway. When I brought my last car in 1997, I purposely avoided gas guzzling SUVs and brought myself a car that gets 30 MPG. I will be buying a new car in about a year. It is more than likely that I will be purchasing a hybrid or fuel cell car. In any case, fuel efficiency will be one of my top priorities. I have no idea where you come off saying I won't buy a fuel efficient car?!?
