Everything is relative. For $200, do you expect a 5 gig removable hard drive at 5 ms access time? Of course not. For the price, the capacity and speed are pretty good. It is not a shoddy product, which refers to the quality of the product. It is pretty rugged, and I have had no problems with it at all. Another point to consider: A SCSI zip has almost NO transportability between two computers or a computer and a notebook. Only 10% of current computers have SCSI ports, but almost all have parallel ports. Yes, the parallel port version is slower, but in return, you get full portability.
