I had not thought of anything other than the Zip but will find out what a LS120 is and can lose the Zip, floppy, and the half dozen zip disks I have.

The LS120 is backward compatible with floppy disks. It also has its own 120MB media. It can replace the floppy and zip combo as already mentioned. I think this concept is a good one for small cases ie lap top computers where space is a premium. The drive plugs into the IDE controller (SCSI options also available). The IDE controller will support four devices. You will use one for the harddrive and one for the CDROM. With the IDE LS120 you will have one IDE device left.

Consider that you may want to add a second IDE harddrive, IDE CDR, IDE tape drive...

I have three LS120 drives. I do not consider them or any other floppy compatible device a substitute for the floppy drive in a non laptop application. A floppy drive is only $25 and it plugs into its own controller so the space is available..ie you loose nothing and gain a lot for $25. The floppy has been around a long time and is universally supported..ie you should maintain it as a boot access option to your computer.

LS120 and ZIP drives are a bit small IMO. They are useful for some limited applications ie selective file backups and file transfers between two machines with compatible drives. If you already have some zip discs I do not see much advantage to changing to LS120..except the LS120 MAY be more reliable. My preference is a larger removable media format.

Add a fan to ventilate your monitor if it is in a confined space.

Just my two cents
