Obama open to drilling
----------------------------------------
That's what I was waiting on.

He's got my vote.

Note *how* it's phrased. It would be part of a comprehensive energy plan... we also get efficiency and research. That's how politicians, not ideologues, operate. That's how big plans get accomplished... win/win (and lose/lose) compromise.

Now I personally have mixed feelings about 50 miles off the Florida west gulf coast, considering that that is less than 52 miles from where I sit in my home office right now, and my plan in an hour or so is to take my 18 week old puppy to a pristine gulf beach to romp with other 4 legged creatures. A gorgeous place with beautiful white sand and a view to die for.

So am I willing to risk that? Reluctantly, and only if others are will to make sacrifices. The only reason we need to risk my beach is because millions of assholes like to drive around in 7000 pound SUVs to pick up a pack of smokes at the 7/11. How about we also encourage them to trade for a much more efficient vehicle; give them incentives if they do and penalties if they don't. They are the reason my pristine beach will probably be polluted with various debris from oil rigs. And why people on the west coast of Florida will probably lose jobs in the tourist industry. So how 'bout they make a sacrifice as well.

But the striking difference is between McCain and Obama. Obama is beginning a negotiation. McCain just caved to partisan pressure. Obama the pragmatist, McCain the pawn of the ideologues.

It's obvious who we want for President.
