Good grief, Daniel Marcus, the counsel for the 9/11 Commission was a partner at Wilmer, Pickering where Gorelick is employed. Granted, he left in 1998, but he undoubtedly knew Gorelick when they both worked there.

They're not working at exactly arm's length. And Marcus presumably is determining whether she has a conflict of interest, a point which is ridiculously simple to answer--of course she does. The Commsission could easily end up investigating her work. Her recusal from certain issues but not others is simply slicing the salami too thinly.

These high-priced, high-intellect Yale and Harvard lawyers have forgotten one very simple point: it's not the impropriety itself that matters but the appearance of impropriety against which they must guard.

Ethics 101.
