There's been lots of press recently about the need for consolidation in the smaller end of the chip market. I guess the capital equipment costs have risen to the point that the smaller companies won't be able to make the next big moves in technology unless they have a financial "big brother." I can see this point of view, but don't know how to confirm it other than to read the trades.
