You join a lot of folks with enthusiasm for “single-payer” healthcare. I’ve always wondered if believers had exposure to the analysis of process indicating such would trend toward stasis at best.

Some of us wingers are convinced that deficits from the doable result from long accumulation of misguided interventions at the federal and state levels. Third party insurance, perceived as “free”, has introduced unpleasant distortions in the allocation of scarce resources with alternative uses. Mandates have prevented discovery of affordable policies in accordance with individual’s needs and abilities to pay. Patents and extensions have probably maintained some drug prices at artificially high levels. Pandering to cartels preclude discovery of better delivery. Restricting access to medical education adds another insult.

At first glance government involvement seems attractive; gives access to the poor and more and provides a honey pot for providers. Over time most lose.

There seems a too common perception that superior results can be morally intuited, then legislated. I think that wrong, suspect a conventional media who won’t or is unequipped to present evidence to the contrary.

Incidentally, I join you in hoping the Republicans might lead in digging us out of a big hole. Experience leaves me right jumpy.
