The next thing I'd do is make a backup of everything I wanted to keep and then I would run System File Checker.

Go to start/run and type in sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Don't forget the space between sfc and the / symbol

This will check all your protected system files for correct version numbers. It also substitutes for the old Internet Explorer repair tool
