I have a somewhat different number for the bottom. What was the closing level of the Nasdaq, the S&P 500 and the Dow on the afternoon before Netscape went public? Does anybody know?

I would think of that as a symbolic floor for the markets. In essence, we have to wipe out ALL the gains that resulted from the internet mania, down to the last fraction of a point. From there, we can start all over again with a clean slate and look to the future.
