There are all kinds of programs out there if you get into
CTA (hedge fund) world. They work off different groups of
strategies, including trend following strategies. In other
words, this is not a simple system at all.

This is Monte Carlo. It's an algorithm to compute
statistics faster, which (of course) is needed on
the Street of Wall, not a holy grail. -g-

A very simplified "explanation" would be that the way
that program works is similar to the way BLS works. They
sample, say, 1000 people to get employment picture for
100,000,000 of American households. It works, but has
sampling errors if the sample is too small or "biased".
If they called 300,000,000 Americans to get the picture,
that would take a long time. -g-
