Partnership to Demonstrate Fuel Cell Vehicles
WHAT: The launch of the "California Fuel Cell Partnership" makes the state home to the first collaboration between automakers, oil companies and governments to demonstrate fuel cell vehicles under real day-to-day driving conditions. The Partnership will place about 50 fuel cell vehicles on the road between 2002 and 2003. Fuel cells create their own electricity and offer zero or near-zero emissions with the driving range of conventional vehicles, along with higher fuel efficiency.
WHO: California Governor Gray Davis with leaders from Ballard Power Systems, DaimlerChrysier, Ford Motor Company, ARCO, Shell and Texaco.
WHEN: April 20, 10:30 a.m. PDT on the West steps of the Capitol
10th and L Streets, Sacramento.
DRIVE THE FUTURE: Following the press conference from noon-3 p.m., media test drives at Crocker Park (3rd and O St.) will be offered with DaimlerChrysier's NECAR 4 and Ford's P2000 fuel cell vehicles. Lunch will also be available beginning at noon.
