Deaf Girl Performs with Symphony Orchestra

Philadelphia- A 29 year old deaf girl
tried to live out her dream of
performing a violin solo with the
Philly orchestra. She had been deaf
from birth, and strongly wanted to
play professional violin. She was
encouraged by her teacher, Dr.
Schlif Verchasct, a teacher from
Vienna, Austria. Although she
cannot hear, the vibrations from the
floor allow her to "feel" the music.
Unfortunately, things are not always
picturebook perfect, and the deaf
musician began her first tune
completely out of key. The sound
was so bad that the audience
began leaving the auditorium. The
conductor began to giggle and
many of the other musicians joined
in. A reporter described the sound
as "something a cat would make if you
set it on fire." Then the girl began
another Bach piece despite the fact
that the rest of the orchestra was
performing Beethoven. After 15
minutes of torturous sounds, the
conductor strode off the stage and
asked for a double scotch to regain
his nerves. When asked about her
performance during intermission the
girl looked at the reporter and asked "what?".
