This sounds like an old fashioned "two handed" story. You know, "on the one hand the Dow may hit 40,000, but on the other hand it could hit 100."

If you cover all possible outcomes how can you possibility go wrong? But if there's no possibility of being wrong your not really taking a stand. I've found that such arguments usually are a sure sign the speaker knows nothing significant about the subject.
