<<ethanol in petrol>>. Yes, the gas users subsidize the farmers.
I agree. We should use the cheaper fossil fuels first. As the reserves dwindle, prices go up, thus making alternatives economic. For ex. a barrel of crude would have to go to USD40 to make Ethanol competitive.
But by the time reserves would be dwindling, populations will be falling fast. New technologies, would have appeared and matured to make every unit of GNP use less Joule.
The countries that will develop this century will develop much more cleaner than the ones that developed in the past.
Let me illustrate that. And that's not for you because you get the point without it. I need to do that else we get some half-baked mind touting "reality"
Look how we increase telephony density today vs. in the last 100 years for an idea of how less resource and labor intensive (no tons of copper, no lines of poles, no microwave relay stations, no dirty batteries, non-efficient rectifiers or aircondiotioning non-efficient, crude algorhytms like PCM, all with clever software doing easy work.
Compare the former landscape of the past with roads lined up with wooden poles with that immense string of wires on top of it.
The same we deploy telecoms in these God forsaken places easily and clean, in the future those dirty poor places will enjoy cheaper clean technologies not imagined by the countries that developed last century.
