n any event, I don't think it has anything to do with FICA taxes. The working poor pay many more taxes than FICA. They pay sales taxes, excise taxes, real estate taxes (even if they rent a portion of their rent goes to taxes), tolls, on and on.... Think taxes on gasoline. When someone making $200K fills up the Escalade that 50 cents a gallon that goes to the feds doesn't really make much difference. When a guy making $35K with three kids to feed pulls up to the pump, that 50 cents means something.
