I think the calculation you're looking for is something like

Increased cost = % of manufacturing cost from electricity * % from coal derived electricity * 1.1

For most of manufacturing, energy costs are not the major input, labor is.

Making MS Office, probably about a buck fifty costs from electricity.
Making a Car, a very electricity intense process, costs between $1000-1500 total depending on size (this includes costs of making steel and plastic and manuf. costs). So worse case scenario a car costs $150 more after cap and trade.

That's going to crush our economy? We probably will gain more than that costs from opening up some of the hundred rivers and streams to recreation that are currently unfishable because of mercury contamination from coal emissions.

Notice that Kentucky uses almost 100% coal, has a lot of Hg in its rivers, and usually comes in last in academic testing of its students. -g-
