Good info Eric, but a couple of refinements.

Thomas Edison was involved at the Falconbridge orebody which was buried under the sands and gravels at the extreme east end of the Sudbury Basin. A couple of shafts were sunk in an attempt to reach bedrock. Thomas Frood discovered the Frood orebody which outcropped, a few years earlier.

Working with U.S. Navy in WWII for submarine detection was Norman Keevil, PhD MIT. He used the technology to find the small but high grade copper deposit on an island in Lake Temagami north of North Bay, Ontario and put it into production (Copperfields). The story I was told was that he was quite a dapper gentleman and talked the wealthy widows and heirs to some of the Kirkland Lake gold wealth to invest and combine their gold company which had holdings in Teck township to amalgamate into Teck Corp. Later his son, Dr. Norman Keevil jr., took over the company and built it into a major Cdn mining company.
