Thanks for the interesting post. Your friend seems very knowlegable about 3Dfx. I'm pretty much in agreement with most of what was said.

I do think he's quite wrong about the non-importance of a 2D/3D combination card. With a 2D/3D card you will see a lot more manufactures offer it as an option. $30-$40 savings (plus the reduced labor to install and better reliability) is a big deal to companies that put PCs together. There's a lot more money in this market than the 'upgrade' market. In short this is now a non-issue though with several companies offering a one board design.

I'm glad your friend got in at the IPO. I bought at $14-1/8 and now wish I would have waited. The stock may even slip back below $13 but I still think it will appreciate by early next year, especially after the Banshee chips are announced. From the letter it looks like the Banshee design contains the 2D logic also. I guess compared to 3D, 2D should be pretty simple!
