<"They dominate the trading arena

one-third of equity volumes; one-fifth of the bond and currency markets; one-half of the commodities sector. They are a mainstay of profits for the large investment banks through commissions on trading and interest on borrowing; when added to the revenues of in-house proprietary trading, hedge funds overall are the predominant source of Wall Street earnings.

My conclusion

If they dominate one-third of the equity volumes on Wall Street, they are financially strong enough ( US $ 1,5 Trillion is to little IMHO ) to lend a " helping hand " to DJIA INDEX price declines. Whenever success looks Media assured.

The Dow Theory teaches that the primary market is to big to be manipulated. Very possible to be true when in analog Mode. But highly suspect able nowadays, trading in global digital environments.
