"You will have to go a long way to convince me that government authorized suicide will look sensible thirty years from the date the law changes"

The Government law against suicide is arrogant and assinine. There is only ONE rationale that could justify a law against taking ones OWN life: the rationale that the State OWNS your life...that you are the property of the State. However, the existence of the State is predicated upon the desire of individuals to protect their ownership of their mind and body from the intrusiveness of others and to regulate human interactions to make them voluntary and not coerced or forced. For the State (a collection of individuals) to presume to intrude into this ownership--the protection of which is the raison d'etre of the State--is a barbaric and irrational affront to human dignity and an unmitigated assault on fundamental rights and freedoms. Whether a person is committing suicide for religious reasons, or rational reasons, or simply for the expedient of escaping a life he no longer values...none of his reasons are the business of Government.
