Are you sure about your connection to Michelle Obama? I had four children go through the public schools, and I well recall when the youngest came home with her BMI result.

I had never heard of BMI...ha...and kept asking her how such a measurement could be taken that easily. It was in conjuction with something the governmnet had put out, a push of some kind to get kids into fitness workouts. The school was scheduling periodic tests of fitness, and it was a big deal to all the kids at her school. To help out, my husband built a chin-up bar in the backyard....a metal apparatus set in concrete. I thought it was a dreadful eyesore at the time, but since have found it works wonderfully to support pole beans or cucumbers each summer. :)

Imagine being the overweight kid in the class that gets his/her BMI determined in front of 25 other kids.

Maybe the teacher was sensitive to this and put the result on paper for only the child to see. Maybe you're also not realizing that obese children are targets of ridicule in schools from their classmates....classmates who don't care whether endocrine problems are at play and what someone's relative BMI is. They only know what they see.

Like I've said previously, I can't find one thing wrong with what this first lady has chosen as her platform and how she is trying to raise public awareness. I don't see any reason whatsoever for her to hold back because of some politically correct notion of sensitivity about calling obese people obese. My tax dollars are being wasted to help people deal with dietary caused illnesses.....obesity, diabetes, and coronary heart disease to name a few. So I'm glad she's advocating on my behalf.
