Richie,

Just finished reading about 100 posts, and wanted to respond to an early question you posed about Ingram-Micro. As a marketing guy in the PC industry since 1980, I'm very familiar with IM since I actually worked closely with that distributor for a number of years while employed with various vendors.

I agree with Rudedog, Ingram's problems are probably largely related to the aggregate movement in the industry toward the "direct" model. From my experience with IM, I don't believe that they move a huge percentage of CPQ boxes anyway, though of course I could be wrong.

As for CPO's movement away from the networking business, it's far better to cut your losses and move on rather than hang on to losing businesses. I've worked for vendors who simply could never pull the plug on "dogs" for one reason or another, and all of those vendors suffered in the long run.

Have a happy holiday season.
