I do a similar test with products. If Fry's isn't stocking a high demand item, then capacity constraints still exist, since Fry's has a lot of leverage with a lot of these technology companies. Lately, I have heard (but not seen) that there is an ample quantity of Jaz in stock at the Fry's in Woodland Hills, CA. I'll have to go check it out later this weekend. As far as the Zip goes, I think that DOLLAR for DOLLAR, it is a very good device. Most consumers do NOT have thousands to spend on computer accessories and periperhals. Most have about $200-300 a year they spend on that sort of equipment. So for them, the Zip is perfect. As far as performance, it is not meant to be compared to a hard drive. Compare it to a 3.5 instead, and then the Zip looks a lot better. The Iomega brand, I think, will translate
into more sales of the Jaz than anticipated. Do not underestimate the power of a brand name, especially in computer peripherals, where most people do not have expertise. Look at US Robotics. Their strong brand name is allowing them to crush the competition. Do you think US Robotic modems are better than Zoom or Cardinal. Not appreciably, but they outsell those brands by a big margin, despite their higher price. Why? The Brand name.
