You're right. What is he thinking?

Spector, the former prosecutor, has looked at the case against Craig and decided that if it had gone to trial, he might have been acquitted. Well, great. That was just what the Republicans needed. Having one of their senior Senators put on trial for public indecency.

And they really don't need to have this whole thing kept alive, either. Craig has virtually no chance of staying in the Senate. He'd have been better off to just slink away quietly.

I do find it funny, but in a kind of painful way.
