In that sense the Republicans are more hypocritical because they talk about reducing the size of government more.

However while they don't actually shrink government, they seem to make more of an effort, and they do sometimes actually manage to reduce its rate of growth.

If either party called themselves libertarian they would just be outright lying, but I don't think I have ever heard them say that.
