You are correctomundo - I just checked out Compaq's Prosignia WebSite - pure Intel Inside.

My guess is two compelling factors entered into the Intel choice:

1. Businesses are the target market & businesses prefer Intel - stability and long term reputation for quality & reliability & performance.

2. JIT - Intel has the PRORVEN manufacturing expertise to deliver CPUs in a Build To Order (BTO) Just in Time (JIT) production program.
