This disgraceful mess is no longer in the hands of the DOJ/Microsoft. That is why the failure of negotiations was such a Milestone to investors. Courts are part of the Judiciary, not the Executive branch of the Federal Government.

Now we have a Finding of Law: Guilty.

This is no longer something that a couple of lawyer guys in a back room can fix. Too bad. Microsoft has such deep pockets and there are so many pocket-sharks swimming around out there.

At this point it would take a bought and paid for presidential candidate and some timely Supreme Court openings to do the back room thing.

Gates knows this, or should have known this, even if some of the rest of us have been slow to grasp the point.

The gentler the fall, the more likely Gates dodges the blame.
