With all due respect, the "other" TMTA thread was started over two years after this one (Nov 16, 2000 5:38 PM versus Nov 13, 1998 8:17 PM ). You have to ask why the other one was even started at all.

With regard to the comment from someone saying "mobile is hot, so TMTA wins." Well, since their largest market is Japan, I would say their position isn't all that great. More importantly, Intel reportedly has a "normal" chip (no code morphing) which has competitive power without the massive performance hit. Since the domestic market has been slow to adopt TMTA, Intel will fill the niche before Transmeta gets there.

I'd say the best thing TMTA has going for it now would be a buyout from AMD, whose chips are so high power that a TMTA solution would make sense for them (at least it has been my experience in the desktop arena that AMD's parts run much hotter than Intel--thus, I wouldn't expect their mobile to be the low-power leaders).

Although I would agree that TMTA could shoot up to 6 or 8, I don't think it could do so on fundamentals. I'll certainly be watching it with an eye for shorting, but only if it gets ridiculously pricey again.

Regards,

Steve
