spitsong, I have been real lucky to have seen some of the sporting events that I have mentioned.

A perfect example was the Cotton Bowl in 1953. I grew up a huge Rice fan. My parents had season
tickets. My uncle was the burser at Rice (something like the comptroller), so we had easy access for
tickets to the Cotton Bowl. As luck would have it, I got to see Tommy Lewis come off the bench to
tackle Dickie Moegle on his 95 yard touchdown run. To this day I don't think Bart Starr could have
come close to tackling him, either. Moegle was being trailed by a 6'6" tackle named Richard Chapman,
and Starr would have never gotten past him to tackle Moegle.

I had a perfect view of the action (directly across the field at about the 40 yard line) and can remember
standing up in shock and booing. Couldn't believe what I had just seen. Cheered like crazy when the
referee awarded Moegle the touchdown.

Chapman, by the way, would have made a fortune in today's pro game. Detroit offered him a salary
of something like $10,000 plus they would pay his way through graduate school at Wayne State. He
turned it down and got a PhD in physics on his own. Not exactly what you would see in today's market.

Have a great weekend.. Hope the rain tapers off up there.
