Re (Selling, contd)
Buying is easy part. Selling is over 60% of the game
Today I sold all of 7 stocks,or 1/2 my 14 holdings
Mims, lll,Edo, Atk, Hdi, Noc, brpx (?) all gone, and 1/2 the Atpx
Why sell?
1. Wanted more buying power and also to take profits.
2.. Rotation to defense was probably overdone,( We are not losing any major military equipment "over there")
3. These stocks were starting to drop off, and money coming into market today went into a different segment
Having sold, I had surplus funds, so added to Dell, Tsco, Ally, Plcm, Sdix, and bgt some Aatk
My only holding in Jnpr is calls, sold 2 for about 300% gain, bgt 2 more.
Did I sell too soon and will those I sold continue up? I dont know, but some will and they are gone from my portfolio so it wont bug me if they do. If they drop, I may even buy them back next week
Conclusion:
1. Am no longer a buy-and- hold kinda guy and a month from now may only have three of these
stocks left. Dell, probably some Ally, maybe Plcm, and my biggest holding not shown here.
2. I cant say much to help in selling for which you best develop your own rules. Generally we agree to keep the margin under control and to take profits when offered(G)
3. One should always sell at a stock split or in a company buyout/ combination.
For confirmation consider:
The Buyout of Sdli by Jdsu
Combinations of Bac/NB, Hwp/cpq.
Split of most any tech stock ( qcom, NT, Jdsu, Dell, Yhoo, etc). or even Kkd
