Re: K6-2 350/TNT

I would have to say that most of the discrepency in K6-2 350 systems between Voodoo and TNT has nothing at all to do with the K6-2 core. It has to do with driver support. First, AMD has emphasized (and no doubt optimized) their 3dNow implementation of Quake 2 for the Voodoo 2 chipset. Second, 3Dfx has worked closely with AMD to write 3dNow optimized drivers. I don't think NVidea has done anywhere near as much to optimize their drivers for 3dNow (if in fact they've done anything at all along these lines). I think this latter area is where the TNT/K6-2 combo takes the greatest performance hit relative to Voodoo/K6-2.

That being said, the TNT/K6-2 package is still a pretty good one. The drivers could be better, sure, but you get performance that is equal or (more likely) better than (because of support of much higher resolutions at acceptable framerates) the performance with a single Voodoo2. You don't have to pay for a separate 2D card. Finally, if you do want to play at a higher resolution, you don't have to buy 2 Voodoo2 cards (which for many is cost prohibitive). I have a K6-2 350 MHz system (overclocked to 112x3.5=392 MHz) with a TNT card and I get very good framerates (above 30 fps) in massive1 demo even at high resolutions (1152x864). One Voodoo2 will only get you to 800x600 resolution. Plus TNT has better image quality.
