You make some good points. I would add several thoughts:

I believe it is important to separate out the CYCLICAL nature of computers with the SECULAR trend to increasing capital expenditures for computer equipment. Since the early 90's the percent of capital spending going for computers has been increasing. I believe I saw a figure like 40% of all capital spending was computer-related. Intel benefits from alot of this.

Add to that that currently only 18% of the installed base of PCs are Pentium based, with 59% using 486 chips and fully 23% using 386 (or earlier) chips.

Finally, the debut of Windows NT 4.0 should help Intel ramp up the Pentium Pros faster. Systems with PPro run Windows NT 4.0 66% faster than systems with Pentiums run Windows NT 4.0.

To me the only short term negative is,"Did Intel borrow some 4Q business by canceling the Novemeber price decrease?" If Prop 211 fails to pass, we could learn more before January. Otherwise, we will have to wait for this answer.
