El and Lynn: It looks like we missed a lot over hear. Steam radio was the norm here until about 1955. There was no advertising on our radio unless you had a crystal set and cut pick up Radio Luxembourg. If you could, you were privileged to hear Dickie Valentie, Frankie Lane, Guy Mitchell, Johnnie Ray etc

Even in the late 1950's TV was on in the evenings only and closed down about 10 p.m. Everybody wore evening dress, even outside broadcasters, just like the guy sitting at the desk in Monty Python who said "And now for something completely different". We had only one commercial channel, commercials were severely restricted.
