I was foolin with my ZIP drive the other day...

My system has a ZIP drive that slides into a hole in the front where I remove my DVD and floppy. The power must be OFF when I do this. When turn the power back on, and press the ESC key to kill the 'pretty picture' and see what's goin on, my system tells me it found an Iomega ZIP 100. All this happens before Windows sticks its nose into things. Once Win98 gets going, the ZIP appears in My Computer and Explorer.

It sounds like your system doesn't do things this way. Perhaps try another approach. Hold down the CTRL key and boot to DOS, selecting safe DOS mode. At the C prompt, locate your Iomega drivers and the GUEST.EXE program. The GUEST.EXE is a TSR which loads the proper Iomega driver(s) and assigns a drive letter. If things don't work out at this point, don't give up yet. You need to edit your GUEST.INI file and turn on the messaging for the stuff it's doing. You'll need to read the README.TXT file to get the correct switches and where to put them. (By now you'll probably be wanting to tell me where to put them!) This 'should' give you some feedback as to what's going on, and what to do next.

Perhaps a more experienced user will offer further suggestions. I can't think of anything else to suggest without some feedback about what you see happening, and when it happens.

Cheers, PW.
