I read an interesting article today... got me thinking. Sorry for the link to my "bookshelf"

Excellent post by yourself, and the article was also a very interesting read.

I wouldn't be particularly worried about the middle eastern nations being permitted to hide behind a "shamal curtain" so long as the we're able to overthrow Saddam and gain a foothold against the Wahhabis and Saudis..

We're involved now... and minus some major change in US foriegn policy, we're going to use our power to influence the outcome in the region...

However, if the US fails to recognize that we MUST create an alternative economic future for the people of the region, which will require stability and long-term involvement.

If we do it right, then we'll stand a good chance of neutralizing the militant factions and reshaping the middle east into a more moderate and economically progressive region.

If we fail, then we'll be required to effectively quarantine the entire region.
