end of year review of ICGE

INTRO Here's my semi-annual exercise to see if I remember why I own the stocks I own, and so I can check back and see if their stories have changed. I post in case it helps others too.

(market cap ~ $0.46B)

Internet Capital Group is an incubator or conglomerate of internet based companies that focus on the business-to-business market. They started out as an incubator, but seem to be more of a conglomerate though some of their companies aren't public yet and may never get there.

The management does a good job of slowly growing the value of the company while ignoring the slings and arrows of the media's rebukes. Considering that the media has been making fun of them for years, some are starting to notice that the company has been around for years and as such is maybe not a joke after all.

The current company is hardly alluring, but it wouldn't take much of a success to quickly turn around public perception. The investment community may undervalue the stock because it is difficult to fit the company's business model into a conventional analysis. I see them as more akin to Berkshire Hathaway and wouldn't mind that kind of success.

I continue to hold because, while dull, the stock and the company are making good investment progress.

DISCLAIMER LTBH since late 2000.
