I think this is a very short-sighted view. I have been stuck in elevators many times, and I found the experience quite interesting. Sometimes we sit down on the floor, break out a deck of cards (which I carry everywhere), and play bridge or poker. If I'm alone, I just fall asleep on the floor. One of them most restful periods of the day. Of course, the modern habit of carrying water and a snack to meetings comes in very handy. One rarely hears of people actually starving to death in stopped elevators any more.
