Crossy,

Interesting. As I am not an engineer, I'll defer to Cary on this one.

As for Don Luskin, I do not recall the "gifted analysis" you refer to although he was certainly prolific (often published by the Jim Cramer publishing syndicate) and his Openfund, which has now been liquidated, was loaded to the gills in tech and internet stocks. What I liked about Openfund was its realtime disclosure policy of all fund purchases and sales and the willingness of portfolio managers to chat in realtime with investors. Unfortunately they fell victim to a momentum style of investing that overlooked any type of value discipline. Fortunately there are some astute value investors right here who provide the same service.

For a look at the thinking of an outstanding value investor see "How Far Is Down?
A money manager explains how to discover when the market finally reaches fair value" an interview with Jeremy Grantham in today's Barrons online.wsj.com

Excerpt: "There is no doubt in my mind that the next big mistake will be value managers investing too soon."
