Probably. Practically speaking, how could we stop it? We can only do what we can do and then let the chips fall where they may. All of these questions you raise only lead to inaction.

The Saudi involvement in Bahrain shows that they are fully capable of assertive action if they see it as being in their interests.

It's been a little amusing to watch the ME players themselves try to get their heads around what to do. To act or not to act. The Turkish response was particularly amusing. Basically, their statement was 'we support the military intervention in Libyan, but we won't commit troops because we don't believe in killing other Muslims'. That fence can't be straddled, I don't think.
